Meet Mrs. C, a wonderfully lady with a serious dental infection in the front tooth. An exam and x-rays revealed a fractured tooth that required extraction. Dr. Michael scheduled Mrs. C for the dental extraction and a 4-tooth temporary bridge which spanned from her left lateral incisor to her right lateral incisor. The extraction site was cleaned, disinfected and bone grafted prior to installing the temporary bridge. She returned for suture removal a week later. She was instructed not to use the front teeth for any hard biting and also given instructions on how to clean it. The bone graft and tissues were allowed to heal for 12 weeks. Since she lived out of town, the tissues had a chance to heal for a little longer before she returned to Sarasota. The CEREC crown and bridge procedure begins with a digital impression of the existing temporary bridge, opposing arch and a bite. The temporary crown and bridge are then removed cleaned and another digital impression is taken of the crown and bridge prep. Dr. Michael then designs the final restoration on the CEREC workstation and the final restorations are milled here in the office. It takes about 35-40 minutes to mill a bridge and a crown. The restorations were then cleaned and Dr. Michael made the final cosmetic adjustments to the material and then placed stain and glaze prior to firing the dental restorations. The firing process for a bridge takes about 25 minutes where crowns take about 15 minutes. Once fired, the restorations are cleaned and tried in. Mrs. C’s restorations fit like a glove… they were bonded permanently and excess resin cement was removed prior to a final polish.
